The Arts [at] Redeemer

Created to Create

At Redeemer Christian School, we believe creativity is a gift from God—and we’re passionate about helping students discover and develop it. Whether it’s through painting, music, theater, or digital media, our arts program gives students the freedom to express themselves, glorify God, and grow in confidence.

From early learners to high school artists, students are immersed in a vibrant creative community where their talents are nurtured, and their imaginations are ignited. They don’t just learn technique—they learn to tell stories, inspire others, and reflect the beauty and truth of the Creator through their work.

With opportunities to perform, exhibit, and collaborate, students experience the joy of artistic expression while building discipline, resilience, and purpose. Our teachers guide them with both technical excellence and spiritual encouragement—challenging them to use their gifts boldly and faithfully.

At Redeemer

The arts don’t just enrich the student experience they reveal the Creator through every brushstroke, every note, and every performance.

Music

From First Notes to Final Applause!

At Redeemer Christian School, music is more than a class—it’s a celebration of creativity, community, and worship! Every student, from Pre-K through 6th grade, is given the opportunity to grow in musical skill and expression. Even our youngest learners experience the joy of rhythm, melody, and movement through fun, hands-on general music classes.

Beginning in 5th grade, students dive deeper with choir as part of their music instruction, learning to sing in harmony, perform as a group, and build confidence on stage.

Throughout the year, the RCS Music Program shines with two major school-wide concerts that showcase student talent and passion. These exciting performances bring families together and give students a chance to celebrate their growth in a big way. Participation is graded and encouraged as a valuable part of the full music experience.

At Redeemer Christian, music is where hearts sing, gifts grow, and God is glorified.

1st–3rd Grade: Moving, Playing & Discovering Music

In 1st through 3rd grade, music comes to life! Students explore rhythm, melody, and musical expression through fun movement games and interactive activities. They’ll dive into the world of orchestral instruments and journey through the classical music time periods—all while building a solid foundation in music appreciation and creativity.

4th Grade: Recorder Karate: Music with a Mission

Fourth graders take their first steps into reading and writing music using the recorder! With the exciting Recorder Karate curriculum, students earn colorful karate bead belts as they master each song culminating in the coveted black bead. It's a fun, goal-driven approach that builds musical skill and confidence. While recorders are provided, we encourage families to purchase one their child is excited to practice with at home!

5th–6th Grade: Choose Your Path!

Band, Strings, or General Music! In 5th and 6th grade, students begin shaping their musical identity. They can choose to join band, strings, or continue with general music. First-time band and string players start their musical journey with no prior experience required just enthusiasm and a one-year commitment to grow. General music students dive deeper into musical concepts through hands-on instruments, movement, and appreciation.

Junior High Band & Strings: Take It to the Next Level!

In 7th and 8th grade, students with at least one year of experience can continue their musical growth in Junior High Band or Strings. These ensembles meet during elective periods and focus on refining technique, ensemble performance, and musical artistry. Students are encouraged to take private lessons to strengthen their individual skills and contribute confidently to group performances.

Private Lessons: Unlock Your Potential

Want to take your child’s musical skills to the next level? Private lessons offer one-on-one instruction tailored to your student’s unique needs and goals. From sharpening note-reading and pitch recognition to building strong technique and performance endurance, private instruction is one of the best ways to grow as a musician. Whether your student is new to their instrument or ready to advance, private lessons can make a big impact. Local music stores often provide helpful resources and instructor recommendations to get you started!

Practice Records: Progress Starts at Home

Great musicians aren’t made overnight they’re made in daily practice! To support steady growth, students track their practice time at home, which counts toward their band grade. During the first week of band, students will receive a guide for how and when to practice. We recommend 30 minutes a day, five days a week that’s 150 minutes of progress, passion, and praise each week!

Instrument Rentals: Try Before You Buy

Not sure which instrument is the perfect fit? Renting is the way to go! We highly recommend beginning band students rent their instrument for the first year. This gives students time to explore and build confidence before making a full investment. Most music stores offer convenient and affordable rental options.

Lights, Camera, Action! It’s Time to Shine!

There’s nothing like the thrill of the stage, and Redeemer’s Theatre Class gives students the chance to step into the spotlight and bring stories to life! Through drama, music, and movement, students grow in creativity, confidence, and collaboration all while having an absolute blast.

Our 7th & 8th Grade Musical Theatre students take center stage with two dynamic productions each year one in the winter and one in the spring. From auditions to final curtain calls, students learn the ins and outs of performance, stagecraft, and teamwork. Roles are cast based on audition performance, positive attitude, and flexibility because theatre is a team sport that thrives on heart and dedication!

Each cast and production is uniquely special, and we can't wait to create something amazing with this year’s ensemble. If you’re passionate about performing, ready to work hard, and excited to grow as a performer this is your stage!

So, step up, stand out, and let your light shine!

Parents—Take a Bow!

Behind every great performance is a team of dedicated parents helping make the magic happen! From designing sets to crafting costumes, your time and creativity are essential to bringing each production to life—and it’s a fun, hands-on way to be part of the excitement.

Whether you’re a seasoned DIY-er or just love cheering from the wings, there’s a place for you on our theatre team. Join us backstage and help make unforgettable memories for our students and school community!
